MK Spine & Joint Rehab enables its patients to receive high-quality care with focus on sports-related spine pain and its treatments. Our clinic treats conditions that have not responded to non-surgical options, providing rehabilitative medical procedures such as physical therapy and occupational therapy. We educate our patients on better ways to manage their pain.
About Dr. Matthew Kalter
- Fellowship-trained interventional physiatrist.
- Undergraduate studies completes at Muhlenberg College in Eastern Pennsylvania.
- Medical education at Ross University School of Medicine.
- Internship in internal medicine at the New York Hospital Queens – Weill-Cornell University
- Studied Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (Physiatry) at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
- Subtraining in pain medicine at the Center for Pain Medicine & Rehabilitation in Annapolis, Maryland.
Dr. Kalter has an extensive background in managing and stabilizing neck and back pain. He specializes in the non-surgical care of spine, musculoskeletal injuries, and management of conditions common in the athletes, individuals injured in moving vehicle accidents and workers injured on the job.
Dr. Kalter is board certified & licensed to practice medicine in New York State. He is actively involved in teaching prospective and lectures extensively.

Raymond Gutierrez, PTRaymond Gutierrez, is a licensed and registered Physical Therapist. He graduated from Our Lady of Fatima University in Manila, Philippines with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy. Over the last 25 years he has worked both as a College Professor and a clinician in hospital, outpatient, and home-care adults settings, with experience in n a variety of clinical areas including post-operative, orthopedics, geriatrics, and balance/vestibular disorders. Ray is involved all aspects of patient care including initial assessments, generating treatment plans, and educating patients on their injuries.

Marife Alfonso-Gutierrez, known to many as “Marie”, has over 25 years of clinical experience in the field of adult care and pediatrics. She has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Emilio Aguinaldo College in Manila, Philippines.
Marie is also a certified Assistive Technology Professional through Rehabilitation Engineer and Assistive Technology of North America (RESNA). As an out-patient therapist, Marie blends manual therapy, exercise-based strengthening, and movement exercises in her rehabilitation approach. Marie in a not only well-versed in the adult conditions, she has worked with children with a variety of diagnoses and conditions including: cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and other genetic disorders, as well as Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Melissa Nocella-Thakkar, PA-C
Physician Assistant
Melissa Nocella-Thakkar, PA is a graduate of the physician assistant program at New York Institute of Technology, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. Her undergraduate studies were completed at Hofstra University where she graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. After her post-graduate education, she later pursued and completed her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies at University of Nebraska Medical Center.
PA Melissa is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and has been a practicing Physician Assistant since 2002. Over the course of her career she has spent over 10 years practicing family medicine and thereafter has dedicated her time between orthopedics and pain management.
She is a compassionate and motivated professional and enjoys spending time with her family and traveling abroad when outside of the workplace.
